coolant leak!
« on: February 23, 2005, 03:41:05 pm »
I got home yesterday and after about 10 minutes I came outside and there was a pool of antifreeze on the driveway. By that time it was to late to do anything so this morning I replaced the upper and lowwer rad hoses thinking that was it, i was wrong. The leak appears to be coming from above the tranny somewhere, due to the fact that the front side of the tranny was wet. Could this be one of those stupid little hoses or something more involved then that???

There are a number of rubber hoses off the t-stat housing.  Could also be your t-stat housing, or your rad cap, etc etc.  Isolate the leak. Fill up your system, and overflow, seal it all up, start the car, let it get to temperature and watch for the leaks.  Grab a flashlight to help see the leak.

if its coming from the tranny side, take off the intake piping, intercooler hose.  This makes getting in there really easy.

Oh, and as per our conversation, if the engine bay is clean and dry, its alot easier to see leaks ;)

If you want, swing out sometime, I can help ya out if you need it.

Oh, just had a thought.  I had a leak from my rad, and it was running down the core from a leak on the upper tank.  Then the fan would turn on and fire the coolant all over the tranny and that end of the engine.  Have a look at that.

Coolant leaks are usually easy to spot.

It could be from the coolant lines going to and from the fiav on the throttle body, or to and from the heater core. All those coolant hoses run right on top of the tranny.

I vote throttle body coolant lines

I had a pin hole leak and it was spraying under pressure into the head and then running down and onto the transmission.

I also had the same problem and it turns out it was a house that was going from the TB to a metal pipe (don't know the correct name), It's metal pipe where the lower rad hose connects to. It would leak on the tranny and makes it's way to the front of it.
