Fuel system

Hey guys got a good question for you. Its starts like this, my fuel filter was locked to my fuel line and after a couple days of trying to get it off ( hours of work total) it finally strips! so now I'll never get the filter off so I'm thinking of upgrading to a full braided fuel line. What I plan to do is run a new Walbro, Russel fitings and line ( 8 or 10 AN fittings not sure yet ) and a new AEM fuel rail. What I'm wondering is if anyone has done this yet and if I will need any other parts when I do it!! Thanks for any help you can give me.

Matt

For the fuel filter I recommend just going to the dealership.  It takes 10 mins with the right tools.

there's a how-to on upgrading your fuel system to braded lines with AN fittings either on vfaq or plymouthlaser.com, can't remember, don't feel like looking, you look... fuel rail prob doesn't need to be replaced, however a nice fuel filter would make a difference, and getting rid of those tiny fuel lines, they're pathetic

they may be pathetic, but you can go pretty far with stock fuel filter, lines and rail......so maybe not so pathetic, 12's is no prob with them.

but they flow like shit, running a walbro through the stock lines is a waste, most people woudn't even need a walbro if they're just running a 16g or so on moderate boost if they only upgraded their lines/fuel filter... ok my lazy ass found the link.. check this out..

well the fuel line is stripped thats why its got to go and I'm using all Russel parts from Lordco ( ya club discount!! ) I'm going to do the rail because then I don't have to jimmy rig the line onto the stock rail the big fitting will bolt right on!

To go from the stock fuel sender, requires METRIC fittings.

Slowboy has figured out a complete braided setup from tank to rail buy it already done from them.

They had goodridge make them custom adapters for this application

It can be done with other stuff but the flare fitting surfaces aren't quite right and if you're going to spend all that money you might as well get the right stuff

Well, my stock fuel system is supporting 38lb/min+ of airflow with ONLY a pump rewire and 550s.  Stock pump, filter, lines.

You'll definately overwhelm your FPR if you have a walbro with upgraded lines on a stock FPR.  The stock lines provide a more of a flow restriction to help counter that effect.

yep, lines and rails are good for lots on these cars.  BUUUT, if you upgrade these and the rest of it, the pumps are good for more too.

I guess its what you wanna do.

sure you can run a lot of fuel through the stock lines but why would you unless you wanna prove a point? read the article, 25% incease in pressure make for ~5% increase in flow? not very good... personally I think it makes a lot more sense to upgrade your lines before getting a walbro even... and just run a stock pump, that'll still do you plenty of fuel for most people's needs
