More problems (OIL PRESSURE)
« on: December 06, 2004, 01:59:10 pm »
Ok heres the scoop, I did the rebuild (complete overhaul) and turns out my ECU is junk. SO i have another spare ecu (MINE is 6262 and SPARE is 8625) and i put it in just to run the car and start it up and bang it runs like a desel. So i pull the head off and replace valves thinking it might be the head (sticky valves) and put it all back together and start it up again. Run really good for about 1 minutes and then started to sound like a desel again. So i sat in the car and saw that my oil pressure is 0 NOTHING. If the Lifters were screwed could it cause the LOW OIL PRESSURE.

the oil pressure problem could be completely unrelated to your lifters. It might be a faulty oil pressure sending unit harness thing. Happened to me and a few other guys. Is the oil light on? If not the sending unit is probably the culprit.

you need to go to a shop that has an oil pressure gauge that they know works and can be hooked into your car to tell for sure.

Oh and I wouldnt drive it if you are not sure you have pressure.  That oil pressure is ALL that keeps your bearings from touching metal on metal.

i am also sure that i do have oil pressure because i had the valve cover off and i just cranked it and man did the oil shot every where. It hit the hood and went about 2meter infront of my car. i am not an expert on oil pressure but i will connect my oil pressure gauge and see what happens

 that's crazy, good thing you didn't open fuel line and try starting your car.

Get someone who is knowlegeble to look at your car, sounds like you might end up with more problems then you started.

If you confirmed you have oil pressure (you said oil went everywhere) and the oil light went off, you most likely have pressure.

(I would think that its pretty hard to have 0 pressure. Especially with those 2 things above)

I assume you're concerned because your stock guage is not reading anything. If thats the case,( and you're sure there is pressure) you missed connecting up the guage. Its a small plug that plugs into the oil filter housing (or around there) I missed connecting mine as well. (or as Matt said, could be a faulty unit, but check connections first) There are two connections, one for the light and one for the guage.

Lifters do not cause low oil pressure. Lifters are also rarely "screwed". At least not totally and not all of them.

As far as sounding like a diesel, I dont know. Empty lifters at startup would sound like that. From your post, thats my guess.

There is proper procedure for installing new lifters (or reinstalling old ones). Lifters should be empty of oil for startup. They will be noisy for a few minutes until they fill up.

Have a look at www.vfaq.com if you have not already.

As everybody has said though, confirm you have pressure. If you do, its probably just the lifters being noisy for a few minutes.
