14b in to 2g difficlties ?
« on: November 29, 2004, 04:27:56 pm »
I just finished installing the 14b in to the eclipse. When we started her up is sounded like the wastegate was open at idle, verry loud with the dump.  As I began the test drive I saw the boost wouldnt go past 3psi when i floored it, there was no power ?    :(

 Any ideas ?

Yes, it sounds like your wastegate is stuck open.  Did you move the flapper to see if it's free?

There was a turbo/O2 houseing bolt missing, and the wastegates diaphram was getting stuck on itself, other that that shes seems to be burning a little bit of oil and could have a boost leak ?
Its pulling alot harder but the low rpm power isnt quite there untill i hit 8-10 psi. When the dump opends after 15psi she pulls nice and hard.  :)

Or a little boost leak, I had one right by my throttle body and it sounded like that.

The blades look fine from what i can see, and the noise only stared after we droped in the new turbo. ...its now smokeing  slightly after she gets hot.   ...looks like a new turbo is needed.

I hear that Ty :(

on the good side, a good 14b IS a good turbo.

Just be warned Ty.  It is hard to find a good used turbo...a wasted $200 is still a wasted $200.
