HELP: Oil Pressure Gauge not working
« on: September 26, 2004, 01:56:48 pm »
it's on a 98 Eclipse GST Spyder...

my oil pressure gauge needle doesn't work at all. i checked the oil, and the levels are fine.

i did notice that there's a plug hanging out (more like ripped out) below my engine oil dip stick when i look underneath my car. it's really oily and greasy... i am thinkint this thing was used to monitor my oil pressure.

can anyone help me out here? what new part i neeed?

thank you!!

That's thing is supposed to be attached to the pressure sender and yes, you are right, it's supposed to be attached to something

my wire fell off going down the freeway - scared the crap out of me when I saw the oil pressure drop to nil.

the sending unit is on the driverside just past the bottom of the fender-well (towards the engine). You probably need a new harness (fancy word for "oil pressure wire in this case) but they only cost like 8 bucks or something from Van Mitsu. It comes with a new wire (the wire is only about 4" long and has a connector on esch end; its fairly easy to tell were to attach the ends.) Should take about five mins to fix, just look and see where the one end is hanging from, take note, and just tear it off, don't worry about finess, and put the new one on.

Yes mine was just the connector that was loose, pinched it a pit with pliers and stuck it back on - has never come off again.

I did the same thing Marty, mine came off going 110km/h down the highway dropped to zero pressure, i freaked and pulled over instantly and that was the problem, crimped it a little with pliers, put i back on, hasn't come off since.

might  sound like a nooby question, but you'll have to jack the front end up to put the wires and plugs back in right, because i'm having the same problem and don't know what to look for :S, i've looked under once, but once again, didnt know what i was looking for.

I am sure it is possible to put it back on without jacking up the car, people with their freakishly long arms i am sure could do it no problem.  It makes it really easy if you do jack up the car though.

if ur cars not lowered u could probably stick ur head under the front bumper and crimp it back on.  Look for a dangling wire, and see how far it goes.  I don't think there's anywhere else it can connect too except the nipple thing at the end of the sending unit.
