Picked this bad boy up from Specialty this afternoon.

SOHC KA motor. Should pump a nice 300rwhp in the next few weeks.

CP forged pistons, 8:1 compression. .020oversize.

All new bearings etc.  Balanced, machined, oil passages were smoothed etc... everything was hot tanked.

I have nothing but good things to say about Andy at Specialty Engineering, if you want someone trustworthy working with your parts... concider them.

Only took about 2 weeks to finish the work and he did a kick ass job, he actually called me and gave me updates, very polite, very good customer service. HIGHLY recommended.

Now i get to spent the next few days assembling. Finished taking apart the head earlier tonight, cleaned everything, installed new stem seals etc. Hope to have the motor together and in tommorrow night. Wont be running it til i finish my exhaust header. Give me a week or 2.

Unfortunately money is a factor.. i woulda loved to have spent the money to have the head done out too... but i wanna drive this thing this summer... so ill aim for 400hp for next summer.

With a projected weight of around 2400lbs... it should be quick.

Some pics:

Front mount, 50mm aluminum rad, 3" n1 muffler, high flow cat, t3/t4 garrett ball bearing turbo, type S bov, pro clutch 6 puck sprung hub metalic clutch, MONSTA tach!!, walbro 255, RX-7 460's, Z32 MAF, Apexi S-afc2, PLX wideband, Autometer boost gauge, custom front mount spray bar kit, and that should cover it.

Old POS motor.

Bought this engine stand at Princess auto earlier tonight.... $33!

Curious, why did you go for the SOHC KA motor as compared to the later ones.  Availability?  I'm only somewhat familiar with Nissan engines, so excuse the ignorance

I was gonna ask about the single cam KA as well, so I will ask the other question.  Why the 460's?  Surely a 2.4 liter pumped up by a big ass turbo and with an SAFC and big pump, why not at least 550's?

Very cool project btw.

Awesome, before the dsm, I planned on doing something similar with a dohc ka, I remember talking to you on nwn.  So little people go with the ka, everybody is too quick for the "I have jdm" switchover i think.  That really is awesome.

KA cost me $300.

SR's cost about $3000.

End result is goin to be about the same.

Im running 460's for now cause the price was right and i have 3000km's to break the thing in... i wont be able to run any boost or hard on the motor for another month or so... so the priority now is just to have it properly broken in.. once the bottom end and 6 puck are broken in.. ill start getting everything perfectly tuned.... 300hp is expected... if not, a bit more.

I had a KA, in my 92 Nissan P/U 4x4  :P Very trucky motor.

Whats the deal with the rust on the shock tower? Thats pretty severe rust for a newer Jap cap.

Jordan, if that's a new block, you might want to consider running a dummy turbo/old turbo for the breakin period.  I know many people end up losing the turbo when running new turbo new engine combo.  With your fabrication skills I'm sure you'll have no problems making something to tie the intake together and the exhaust together w/o the turbo, or adapt an old 14b in there, something like that.
