Rim/Tire question
« on: February 10, 2004, 07:26:57 pm »
Would it be possible to fit a 17x12inch rim on a 97eagle talon tsi awd along with 1.5inch lowering springs?

would there be problems with rubbing or would there be problems with trying to have wheel alignments done?

thanks for the help eh!

Just a question

Well first i heard the talon im looking into had tires that wide on it and that it couldn't recieve wheel alignments because of it...but that was disclosed...but then i started to think....imagine the traction you would get if you did have tires that big on your car...so i figured that i would look into it and see if it was possible...
thanks for the help everyone!

12" rims would have like 400~450mm tires.  HALF A FUCKING METRE.  Can you imagine two metres worth of rubber against the ground? :D

...then again, can you imagine how much tires would be??? That's like...Shaq shoes for cars!!

Phil, if you have awd, you are gonna get all the traction you can use with more normal sized tires :)

its why we love these things.

If you flared the fenders out widebody style you might be able to squeeze a 10" wheel in there but I dunno, you could still only run so much offset so your ackerman angle and slip angles would get messed up and it wouldn't handle super...

Mind you, my Camaro with *huge* negative offset and 295s all around handles quite well for a solid live axle...

It would also look really badass

yeah, all that fancy suspension mumbo jumbo.  Suspensions are designed to locate the centroid of the contact patch at a certain point relative to the suspension geometry, when you change the offset and width you change that point which mess with some of the angles and can affect the handling.

10" wide is a maybe with major body modification...  You'll probably need to fabricate all new fenders, inner fenders and fender support on the front and the back, which means in the back blending into the factory fenders, and on both ends either widening stock bumpers or fabricating new ones.  We're talking alot of work... and alot of money.
