trouble shifting into 3rd
« on: January 28, 2004, 12:06:15 am »
every once in awhile i'll have a little difficulty getting into 3rd gear in my 98 talon tsiawd. Can i just adjust it? I do have a b&m short shifter installed. I havent owned the car for very long and put the shifter in a few weeks after i got it so im not really sure if that has anything to do with it.

you could try some new synthetic tranny fluid, make sure the clutch is engaging completely by adjusting the clutch pedal/master cylinder, make sure your whole hydraulic clutch system is a-ok, and try adjusting the shifter cables if they're just slightly out of adjustment. I'm chronically lazy, so if you need more info on how to do these things try searching :)

if the problem persists, congrats; your 3rd gear synchro is wearing out. welcome to the world of rev-matching.

What is your symptom exactly?
Do you feel the shifter "kicking back" when you let out the clutch?
