Car wont start
« on: December 05, 2003, 02:25:42 pm »
okay so i took the car off the road a week ago
went to change the fuel filter..took the old one off, took out the battery
but the new one in ...tightened everything down etc...then went to put the battery in and the battery was dead...so i hooked it up to my charger for about 2 days...while i was chargin the battery i took out the maf and did some more porting to it...so then when the battery was chared hooked the maf all up again put the filter back on hooked it all up then dropped the charged battery in tightened the terminals etc....then tried to start the car
the lights and shit come on and the car makes the startin up noise but wont turn over and actually start.....i was super low on gas so i thought maybe dont have enough gas..so bought 6 liters of gas and put it in..then tried again and same thing...car wont turn over and start
everything was smooth and started fine before the filter change
is there some step that i'm missin in puttin in a new fuel filter..do you have to bleed the lines or some crazy shit like that
i have no idea whats wrong
i know i hooked everything up properly

There's a fuel pump test connector against the firewall near the battery.  It's supposed to power the fuel pump when you jump it to power I think.  You could try priming the pump to see if that's your problem.
all go, no show!

There should not be any extra steps to replacing a fuel filter. It is normal for it to need to crank for a bit longer the first time to fill it but it shouldn't be more than a few. Are you sure you didn't touch anything else like plug wires?
If all else fails there is a slight chance that you got a bad filter. Try putting the old one or another new one back in, then if that works return the one that didn't work.

PS I think everybody needs a B&M fuel guage. You would not need to guess if you had one.

Not enuff cold-cranking amps on your battery.  Try a fresh battery.  Just coz the lights come on, doesn't mean the battery's strong enough to power the starter.  Remember, starting an engine via the flywheel takes a some grunt.

However, I may be mis-reading your statement by saying it won't "turn over and actually start".  If it does continually turn over, the starter is doing it's job.  I'd start lookin at which way you installed that fuel filter perhaps ... also, a poorly connected MAF plug will allow you to turn over the engine repeatedly but fail to actually start properly (except for NT's ... funny, you don't have to have the MAF plugged in ... you get a CEL, but it still runs just fine :))

Good Luck!

the car makes a noise when i turn the ignition key..like it makes the noise right before the car "turns over" and actually starts as to where it is on and idling etc
so it does make a noise .....just wont actually start
i cant explain that any better

maybe try having someone jump the car with cables?
wouldnt' the car still start if the filter was bad?

maybe I sabotaged it as part of the FWD grudge match

I would double check that maf connection, and make sure that no pins are bent. other than that, try jumping it or a new battery, and good luck

you got a crushwasher in there, and using some kind of thread lock?

I've got the same problem, but can't take care of it until next week.
