Questions about a big break upgrade...
« on: December 02, 2003, 11:16:22 pm »
I'm thinking of doing a big break upgrade on my talon, but have no idea what breaks to get. I've been told that Dodge Stealth breaks are good for our cars, or even 2G breaks. Whats the "best bang for your buck deal"? Keep in mind that when i get my rims, the breaks gotta look good  8)
Any advice or help would be much apreciated. Thanx

First a quick spelling lesson
Brakes = help the car stop (often prevents things from breaking)
Breaks = bad / snap / boom / Poof! (oil, smoke, blood etc...)

I think from the simple economics perspective and availability, going to a 2G setup would be the least expensive route and provide considerable gains.

It is also more "Rim" friendly

I'll second Travis on the factory big brakes.  They're nice.  I haven't tried both brakes on the same car but going from my '90 to my '93 the braking difference is huge.  And I don't think my pads are anything special, with some good pads and stainless braid lines it'd be real nice.

I've got the '93 big brakes...but I still want more.  But I have no money for AEM/Baer.  If I was to upgrade, I'd TOTALLY go Baer...something like those nice 13" :D

Graeme, seriously, i have cross drilled rotors, DOT 5 fluid and metal masters, its incredible man!!  to stop such a heavy beast so quick with authority is amazing, if i had some really good cross drilled with braided lines then I would be in for a real treat.

I'm still all about acquiring some Porsche Ceramic Composite brakes with 6 piston calipers.   :D

One day I'd like a Wilwood or Baer or Brembo 4 piston setup on 13" rotors.  A set of those 2 opposed piston Brembos for the back end would be nice too, ala 350Z track package.  I'll probably end up with the AEM big rotor kit though...

I'd love to have some wheels wrapped over a set of 4 pistons though... mmmm...

definately go with 93+ awd big brakes!
i did a while back and man did it ever meake a huge difference!
i ended up gettin 2g calipers tho, which have a banjo fitting instead of the regular hose fitting, so i had to get custom hoses made........so i went stainless!
want to get brembo rotors in the future or maybe the aem bigger rotors...
for cosmetics, they look decent if you paint them up nice, but they will never look as good as a set of polished aluminum brembos or wilwoods!
so look for 93 or 94 awd brakes, or 95+ if you want to get stainless lines made up...
and the n/t stealth brakes are the same as the 93 and 94 brakes(i beleive, check the vfaq), but not the turbo ones!!!!
http://www.vfaq.com/index-main.html
its in the brakes section
good luck and happy stopping!

Don't forget you stop only as good as your tires...No matter how big your brakes or how good the pads are, if you got poor traction, you ain't stopping..
