How fast before you guys start to shake?

I'm just curious at how fast you guys start going before it feels like you guys wanna back off the throttle.  It's been awhile since I've been in the pilot's seat (:() but I seem to remember my baby starts shaking at 130~150ish, kinda makes me worry.  I remember seeing all sorts of "I've gone so fast it's CRAZY" posts on Talk and the old Digest, so I'm wondering if there's some bit of maintenance I should get done.  New tires (<10k) with balancing...getting an alignment done now, but...any thoughts?

Try getting your wheels rebalanced, check the pressure too, even them out atleast side to side, front to back isnt really an issue. If that doesnt work it may be time for an alignement. i've also heard warped rotors can cause vibration, but i can never figure out how unless you're braking. Any uneven wear on your tires? *edit after reading other shaking post* Torque all your lugnuts, if you havent since the shop put the wheels on, they probably arent torqued evenly.

Just curious, anybody know if there's anything in the steering system that can slacken up? tie-rods and the like?

The one time i had my car over 200 it was rock solid.

My ball joints are getting replaced as soon as I get parts, so let's hope that helps :)

Warped brake rotors can cause this problem because the pad will contact a high spot on the rotor without any pedal usage making that wheel drag more than the other and causing the wheel to shimmy.

Well Michael, I just have no idea what you're talking about...besides it was definately faster than that at times.

fuck u guys are lucky....

with the thin 19" rims and the small 12" sterring wheel, the sterring wheel starts to shake like hell at 110km/h!!! I fuckin hate driving on the hwy... plus the fact that 5th gear is so short than I'm reving at 4000 rpm going 110 with the sterring wheel shaking.. just watching the fuel gauge go lower and lower....

Robin, your bling tires and small steering wheel shouldn't be causing shaking.  Something else is wrong.  Maybe your wheels are not balanced properly?  Those heavy chrome rims, if unbalanced, could probably cause quite a lot of vibrations.  I have a little vibration coming through the steering wheel, but at high speeds it's more the wind noise than anything else...

hmm... interesting.... thanks kimyee!

the wheels I think are balanced properly.. cuz there are a shitload of weights on the inside of them..... but wait a minute... I had those same wheels on my parent's toyota avalon and it shaked like crazy when it went on the highway to, but when I put the stock rims back on no more shaking.... hmm... so if the car shakes on both the talon and the avalon when the rims are on... they must not be balanced properly...

THATS what it is!

Thanks Kimyee  :D
