Drive shaft balancing
« on: May 21, 2014, 10:15:27 pm »
So..... I had two drive shafts and I uncoupled them and put one back together using the pieces.
I am assuming that each piece of  the drive shaft is balanced independently of one another, so by bolting them together in any position I should still have a complete balanced system, yes ???

There used to be a shop in port kells that would do a balancing of the shafts.

They did it for me back in my supra days.

I dont remember the name, but it was CHEAP to have done.

If its a 2 piece shaft you may need to phase it, always good to mark your shafts before removal so they go together the same way. This can avoid vibrations from the shafts being out of phase. Can't say for sure what style yours is, too late now though, huck it in see if you have a vibration, if so just take it apart and move your u-joints around. Or take it to a shop that does balancing.

ya, seeing as the pieces are from separate drive shafts there wasn't really any point in marking them but I will test it and go from there.  It won't take long to swap it if I need too.
