AFC Neo question
« on: February 02, 2014, 09:47:26 pm »
Once it's all tuned, will I lose all my settings on the afc if my battery is disconnected or does it retain information?

Thanks

I've got the Neo II and it retains all the settings.
I'm sure the Original Neo would too.

You will be fine but it's usually a good idea to have your settings wrote down.
Just incase.

How does it remember though? Internal hdd or does it have a backup battery? Also, how long can it be disconnected for until it forgets if there is no hdd?

Reason I ask is because I'm an SPL guy so I'm constantly killing batteries and alternators and what not.  ;D

Yup, no worry. It won't lose your tune.

All that money spent on a new build and all and all ur using for tuning is a afc???

Unfortunately, for now yes. Eprom will come later however, it's not high on the priority list for the next year or so. I'm not even sure how much it will be driven for the next little while.

Or a 98+ flushable ecu.

The afc will really hinder any real attempts to make decent power. Improvements will be there, but heavily limited due to the timing increases that go along with the afc. (unless the neo offers timing control somehow as well)

Buy a stand alone!!!!

Stand alone actually seems like a better deal than eprom...would that be the ideal way to go or does eprom trump it?

Stand alone is superior but presents some new problems along with it.

Starting issues on dsms, harder to use (though I dint think you plan on tuning)

I'd look for a good deal on a used stand alone.

Have you considered going stand alone?  ;)

I would budget about $800 for used aem v1 with dyno tune.

I was always under the assumption that ecmlink was around $1000 altogether with an emprom...after searching it just now, I guess I was wrong.
I may go ecmlink depending on what the turnaround time for my car is, if it's ready sooner rather than later I will probably just stick with the afc for now. All depends on how everything goes from here.
