2g DG (Koni) coilover groupbuy @ tuners
« on: September 08, 2012, 08:18:43 am »
Not sure if anyone here is interested in getting a real coilover setup for their 2g, but there's a groupbuy for the DG Koni based coilovers over at Tuners right now. I'm considering it (not sure if I can get all the money together) but figured I'd post it up for anyone else who may be interested.

http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/vendor-announcements/444944-2g-koni-based-coilover-group-buy-dennis-grant-specs.html

The group buy closes at midnight on October 5th

Purchase list:

1. Carl Gould - Machined Parts
2. Kevin Buckham - 2x hats and torrington bearings

I was going to build this set up years ago but grabbed the tein flex instead to avoid the hassle. It sure is tempting since there is no hassle now. Not cheap though but definitely a nice alternative for the 2g guys.

I put myself down for a set of the machined parts. Already dumped enough money into every other part of the Talon, no sense cheaping out on the suspension. If quite a few people from here are interested, I can look into doing a sort of BCDSM group buy for combined shipping and brokerage to cut costs a little. Mods, if this isn't allowed or is in the wrong section let me know, thanks!

I've signed up for two extra top mounts and torrington bearings.  Saving on shipping (or at least brokerage / duty) does sound nice.

Alright, updated my first post to start a list. Once you guys have signed up with Brian (snowborder714) over at Tuners, let me know and I'll add you to the list. Realistically with 4 or more confirmed purchases it'll be worthwhile combining them as that's when you'll be seeing some shipping savings. I can do brokerage myself at the Kelowna CBSA office which will mean no brokerage fees at all, and as all the parts are manufactured in the states there shouldn't be any duty either, just tax. Once they arrive I can send them out by your courier of choice.

Of course, all this is dependant on the final shipping costs, but once the parts are ready I'll get in touch with Brian and see what the difference will be shipping everything to one location in Canada then piecing it out here versus just shipping it all independently. However for brokerage UPS charges $51.20 for the value of the machined parts ($400), and $80.85 for the value of the coilovers ($1700), as well as a 2.7% surcharge for paying the taxes up front to CBSA. I won't be charging a penny for brokering (gotta do it for myself anyway), and no stupid 2.7% surcharge, so I'd imagine it'll still be worthwhile combining everything.

Another option, if the shipping costs themselves don't merit this group buy, is that I can broker your package for you (as it can be done from any CBSA office), that way you still save the $55+ in UPS fees.

Sounds good to me.  I'm already signed up with Brian.

If you do end up getting them, do you mind shipping Greyhound?  They are pleasant and cheap and apparently the thought of losing a package shocks them. ;)  (Had a slight issue with a package from Shiela, and the counter guys were shocked a package was lost temporarily.   So much unlike UPS.)

I don't mind paying you something for your time and hassle.  UPS/FedEx would be raping me otherwise. :)

Yep, Greyhound is fine. They're definitely way better than UPS!

+1.

We get some great power stuff, but you guys get much better suspension goodies and you can swap in a 6bolt.

Lucky 2g guys. Real lucky.

1Gs can already use any of the excellent Evo suspension setups.  A friend of mine just came back from Mueller's with an Ohlins kit.  I only got a quick test drive as the car was not tuned yet, but will be testing the car more in the future.
