Hey Lowell this still true?
« on: August 26, 2012, 11:09:12 pm »
I have yet to see a car on our dyno make more power with any amount of water mix.  Usually you will lose power, and at very best a water mix will make exactly the same power after retuning.  On my 16G/SMIC car I have seen air temps in the upper IC pipe of 185F and the car makes mid 330's at the wheels with a best number of 337awhp.  That's with spraying 100% methanol via an AEM kit.

Having tested the water theory quite a few times before with negative results, I rigged up a 50/50 spray nozzle in the compressor outlet pipe.  Air temps went down noticeably (around 135F at 7500rpm) but after fine tuning the car made exactly 336.5awhp.  Spraying 100% water into the compressor outlet actually showed less cooling effect and power fell off to under 300hp.

16G cars need lots of timing up top and sometimes you can get lucky with bigger injectors and an AFC.  The problem with not having precise timing control is that ideal timing varies from car to car and with methanol injection it's possible to advance timing beyond peak power without knocking.   -lowell-

Ive done a lot of research and it seems that a 20 percent water 80 percent methanol mixture is the absolute best to deter knock. Seeing as almost everyone does 50,50  they will never know.  Methanol does have definite cooling properties though. Any liquid that dissipates will soak up some heat in the charge piping and cylinders. But I bet the small amount of water would be beneficial. It has better cooling properties than methanol. The one big problem is..  You would have to run your tank dry, or drain it, to get a perfectly measured mixture every time if you go off fill point on your meth tank/reservoir.  Or you would have to use a seperate bottle with measured marks on it and mix it perfect every time.

Either go 50/50 or pure methanol.  Its just fool proof.
