1g fwd tranny question.
« on: August 25, 2012, 08:59:10 pm »
So I just want to know, I have currently put my 3rd transmission in my talon and all have the same problem,
They make a grinding/scraping noise, is this a common problem? Should I worry about it?

 5 speed or auto?

During shifting, clutch in or released, or just in specific gear, or all the time?

Just a quick thought....... the main input shaft bearing can have a tendency to wear, causing a grinding sound.  I had this happen and so I replaced it....... good as new.

No shifting problem, just a noise, clutch out, in gear an out of gear, goes away when push clutch in

I found the bearing from a place in Burnaby/New west... cost like $15........ I think chrysler wanted over $100.  Only problem is I can't remember the name of the place.  Sorry.  When I get home I'll dig up the old one for a Model #

If you can get a part number, you can probably get any bearing you can think of through BC Bearing - they are on Mt Lehman road in Abbotsford.

It's not so much hard as it is time consuming and requires a bit of finess and organization.
