Summer driving tire suggestions
« on: June 10, 2012, 06:59:47 am »
So I blew a tire this morning. Thank god it was only one of my brand new winter tires that were installed last season. [/sarcasm]
But it needed an alignment anyways so I'm not too angry about it. I'd like some suggestions on what tire I should replace them with. I'll need a set of 4 since they were all snowwies. It's not for my dsm, but my 4dr sedan that is by no means special (except the fact that it's a '93 with 116k original km's and fully loaded lol). I just need a set of decently cheap summer tires to have mounted, balanced and get the alignment done. I don't want all seasons cuz I'll be putting on snowwies next season. Any ideas?

It's a '93 Chrysler Concord
I dont care what anyone says about my car. It only had 1 error code.

for that, nearly anything is ok.

I would suggest something H rated.

Something with good water evacuation design, and something quiet.

Stay away from the cheapest Chinese tires,(Ling Long, etc), but other than that, cheap is ok.

The new Tiger Paw is a nice design, WAY WAY better than thier old 70s design looking tractor tire.  On a normal car I would suggest using it.

For a Concord?

I'd say as long as it's black and round you've got a winner.

What would be a decent price for rubber? Canadian tire's cheapest tire is $250 and kal-tire's cheapest tire is like $180. Always thought tires were way cheaper than that for just regular, nothing special tires.

Have you checked out Tirerack or 1010 Tires yet?

You should be able to find something for way under $180/tire.

Wow, Drew, all rip offs!

How about this:
http://www.1010tires.com/Tires/General/Altimax+RT
205/70-15" for $100 each.

Add in mount + balance and taxes, you should be done for around $600.

yea maybe a good idea there Brett.

Look for used tires on Craigslist etc.

What wierd size do you have that you have been quoted that rediculous amout per tire?  My 225/45/VR18 Dunlop Star Specs on my Mazdaspeed didnt' cost that much!! Nor did the Hankook RS-3 near R compounds on the Talon.

Or you could have Tire Rack deliver to blaine/point roberts/etc and you just bring them back over the border.

$310 for four is cheap.

I really wish I had this option for getting tires, but the ferry ride makes things expensive.

Could get them mounted there and save duty possibly.

Canadian Customs are cracking down on mounted tires and wheels,
they will put you through the wringer for them.

Unmounted they don't seem to have a problem.

Dang, that's a smokin' deal! I drive down there almost on a weekly basis so I could just get them mounted there. Or have my buddy bring them up on his way. Cam if you want tires I'd be happy to go get em on one of my trips, bring them back to Vancouver then just walk on the ferry with em and bring them to you. $30 in ferry trips is totally worth it imo

I dragged a car battery across one time on the ferry when I bought the laser. That was an experience.
4 tires would sure get you some looks.
You may be able to just drop them off at the luggage rack and have them picked up on the other side to save a trip. I would call and ask first though.
