1990 gear selector lever in a 1991-94 dsm
« on: May 27, 2012, 09:29:53 pm »
This turned out to be a bit of an ordeal just because I was unable to find good info on matching up the right shifter cables, cable bracket, and shifter base.
I have a ton of parts. So it wasnt a huge deal, but still a pain in the ass.  I had read on dsmtuners that the cables that are equal length are the 91 cables needed to run a trans with the 90 gear selector lever.  You need EVERYTHING 91-94. base, cables, cable bracket. You obviously could use the 90 lever in a 90 because youd have all the necessary shifter equipment already. You are able to run the 1990 gear selector arm in a 91-94dsm and it provides a a bit of a short shift. The only real pain in the ass it that the cables that are equal length are actually 1990 cables. So I swapped in the cables that are unequal lengths and voila! The trans shifts good. Just needs fine tuning.
The gear selector arm from a 1990 is shorter than the 1991-94 gear selector lever on the trans. 91-94 (8.5cm) vs 90 (6.5cm)
If anyone does this swap or buys a trans with this lever on it then this info will come in handy.
