Oil leak problem
« on: April 28, 2012, 04:09:40 pm »
Hi All, I have a oil leak or leaks(please see photo) and I am not sure if its from the oil pan seal(yellow arrow) or the oil filter bracket(red arrow).
The leak only happens when I am into boost . Anyone have any experience with oil leaks under boost conditions?

Thanks

My only thought there might be if you're pressurizing the crankcase under boost that the pan would be more of a culprit than the filter housing.

That said both are a pain in the ass to do, so if you have to fix one you might just do both.
Objects in mirrors appear to be losing.

could also be the oil pump housing underneath the timing cover.  Its not like a domestic one, its big and about maybe 1/3 of the size of the lower cover.  Its fairly common for them to leak.

It also could be any one of the seals on that end of the engine, ie either cam seal, the balance shaft seal or the oil pump drive seal, or the crank seal.

it could just be the oil pressure sender too, thats super easy and common.

Dipstick tube lower O ring is a common one that gets overlooked.  We use UV dye and the CSI flashlight to find oil leaks...

Or if you're like me, the dipstick its self popping out causing oil to spit!
