Starting problem
« on: April 15, 2012, 02:19:00 pm »
My talon tsi has issues starting only after sitting for about 6-8 hours.
I have a hunch that the injector seals went on me an it's flooding while it sits.
Just wanna make sure before I pull it apart. Any input would be awsome.

It wont flood if the injector seals go, because the injectors need to voltage to open and I doubt theyd leak heavily enough to not allow it to start... I could be wrong but sounds like a bad starter solenoid.

1g or 2g?

sometimes the oring seal from the fuel pump to the mounting bracket/fuel lid thing and air will get in there.  but if its a 1g i think it might have a piece of hose which usually works better then the oring/hat style (2G??)

just something to consider

yea pull that code.  No code reader needed for your car.

Look on VFAQ, all you need is a test light, or speaker, or cheap analogue(with needle) voltmeter.

you ground a pin, and put your test device across two other pins and turn on the key.  Then you count the flashes/beeps or needle sweeps.

Simple.

Do that check first, but I would quickly make sure your valve timing is on.  Poor idle vacuum is often a skipped timing belt, and if it is, you are living on borrowed time...

It could also be a loose hose from the MAF to the turbo or from the turbo to the intake manifold.  This will allow uncounted air and it won't run well and have low(high?) vacuum.

Very low rpm, almost dies, I checked my timing thinking I had it a bit off when I did the timing belt. But it's spot on. I'm not very good with reading obd1.

Car has a problem.
Car throws a code saying it has a problem.

Why bother posting more information when the car - wants you to know whats wrong with it.

I checked the code, it gave code 21(coolant temp sensor) so I replaced it and made sure all clips had good connection. The car is running better now, but still giving me the same code after clearing it.
