No start with ignition
« on: April 07, 2012, 08:50:42 am »
I can't get my evo to start with the ignition, I can get it to fire right up though if put the ignition in the on position and jump the starter.  I have swapped the relay and no luck there.

Any thoughts?

i checked that too, everythings on there tight and looks clean.  i haven't done any wire chasing yet though to see if or any testing with a volt meter to see how far the signal is getting.

it sounds like your starter isnt getting enough amps to turn over then. You should get your battery checked out. I had one battery that presented the same problem. The voltage on the battery was good, but the cranking amps were too low.

battery is fine, i can jump it direct from the batt, and it turns over and starts no problem.

o ic. didnt know what source you were jumping it from   (ie another battery)

will it jump EVERY time?    Sounds like a bad positive somewhere down the line..    or that signal wire.

Yea, jumps everytime.  I'm thinking it has to be the signal wire. Am I missing something between the igntion and the starter that could be causing this problem?

Does the car have a clutch switch?   ie  will it start only with the clutch in?

the only other thing I could think of in the starter wiring is the ignition fuse.  Not sure of its whereabouts in an evo engine bay tho. I blew mine and the car was dead completely even when I turned the key to start it.

I checked that fuse aswell.  i guess i'll have to chase this wire till I find where the problem could be.

yea   honestly. check the inside of the signal wire connector. My signal wire appeared to be in the connector properly, but under closer inspection the wire was barely making contact to the metal connector inside.  Ide check there for sure.
