Shifting issues
« on: March 30, 2012, 09:54:03 am »
I took my 1ga out yesterday for the first time in a month and a half, when I first fired it up it would not go into gear, so I bled the clutch out and adjusted the pedal travel as far out as possible, It made it driveable but the gears were really hard, the clutch is under 6 months old and I did not have this issue before I Parked it,
Any ideas?

check for fluid around your pedal assembly and inside firewall.   they master cylinder and slave cylinder can leak suddenly and bleeding it will have minimal effect.
So check that both ends are dry.

Pedal assembly can be a problem too.   bushings wear out and the structure of the pedal assembly can twist too. Alot of people restructure their pedal assemblies if they ever run into these problems.

Thier no leaks, clutch master and slave were replaced right before it was parked.
How or can I rebuild the pedal assembly? Or Is it easier to find a good one?

well.  you may be able to determine its play by looking at it while pressing (or have someone) press the clutch pedal to the floor. its difficult because the bushings arent very visible. But you can sometimes determine by the way the clutch pedal moves in and out of load.

Ide recommend having a look to see how tight your pedal assembly is mounted to the firewall.  Those bolts were damn loose on my old ped assembly.

Before all of this.    have you ever bled the slave cylinder after the normal clutch line bleeding procedure. I find if I dont do that, the clutch still feels poopy.     yes..  poopy.

way too much work/fab.      Save up,   buy an AWD dsm.   You would be dropping some serious coin trying to convert a fwd to awd.
FWD = No driveshaft tunnel, Wrong subframe support, No rear diff mount locations...    Its not easy fab either. A lot of it is structural.

100x yes on Drew's post. Buy an AWD, way cheaper. Or if you're up for the work buy an AWD shell and swap your parts over

Anyone else notice how all of the newer guys who by a fwd at some point ask how to convert it to awd?

Just like everyone else has been told,  Buy an AWD it will save you lotsa time and money.

I just swapped in a Jacks tranny and shifting is poor into first and 2nd. How do I bleed just my slave cylinder?

Push in the slave cylinder rod while the bleeder valve is open.  Hold fully depressed until you close the bleeder valve and let it return to the normal position.
