Rear Wheel Bearing Seized
« on: February 12, 2012, 06:02:08 pm »
Hey guys,

So I am pretty sure my passenger side rear wheel bearing is seized.

A while back my ebrake light stop going off even with the ebrake disengaged, and I figured the cable had somehow gotten a little tight, but the car still drove straight with no binding or dragging.

I started hearing a few squeaks here and there but figured it was the ebrake thing.

Pulling into my parking spot tonight, my car locked up. Def coming from the rear. I jacked up the car and removed the ebrake cable to the caliper and the light still didnt go off even with the cable fully pulled out. Weird...      anyways the rotor spun free at that point and was fine. I left the cable disenagged from the caliper and put the wheel back on. Backed the car up a bit and binding still.

Looks like the bearing is seized.

All my tools are in Victoria still  >:(

Anyways I dont have my manual either and need to olnow how much of a gay job im in for. I need this fixed fast.

Upon further inspection, the problem is coming from one of my front wheels.

Kinda weird though, I stuck in new driveshafts about 50,000km ago and also had a brand new OEM carrier bearing pressed on the driver side axle too.

I am on a used tranny right now...       god please don't be the front differential...      fuck my life.

Figure out more tomorrow.

Drain it and see if there is any carnage.

Then again - I saw your post on selling - good idea.

the e brake light comes on when you are low on brake fluid.

Another thought, when I thought I grenaded my TypeR Tranny, I had signs of what was diff failure.

When I took the axles out of the hub's. I couldnt spin 1 hub. The sound it made sounded like a grenaded diff.
I had 2 mechanics take a look as well, they said the same.

If you were low on brake fluid, maybe you've got a leak caliper which has now seized to the rotor.

I suggest popping them axles out when you get tools to do a check.

Not a rotor problem 100%. Car drives fine straight back and forth.

Can still be a hub problem though. Wheel bearing, etc.

brake fluid can be low simply because the pads are worn and the level is lower to fill the pistons in the calipers.
