Check engine light in my 1g talon tsi

I lent my car to a friend for a few days and got it back with a check engine light on,
Its also making 2psi more boost than usual, so I figured intake was the issue, I pulled it all off cleaned the blow by, made sure everything was tight, no leaks, but I forgot to put my recirculation hose from the BOV  back on
I didn't notice till I started driving and heard the BOV very clearly, question is my check engine light turned off and it runs better and pulls harder now, any ideas?

but cmon!!  I could just guess all day long and keep throwing parts at it!  Thats way more cost effective and fun than actually figuring out the problem!!
