Halogen vs Xenon HID
« on: November 20, 2011, 06:36:37 pm »
I've just installed Xenon HID headlights. What a difference! I could barely see with the old halogens, now it's like in a daylight. Literally - a night and day. :)

Heh... Actually the last straw for me was exactly that: driving in the dark when it's raining - I couldn't see a thing! I hoped it would be better with the HID.
Well, I guess I'll get a chance to try that very soon - it's easy here in our area. :)

Neither. :) But the housing I have is very similar to stock - just got some headlamps from eBay recently.

What temp are you using? 35w or 55w ballasts? Are they the slim ballasts?
I dont care what anyone says about my car. It only had 1 error code.

Actually I don't really know much about this kit - just got it from a friend, he had one spare. Seems like it's a 35W slim one. The temp is 5000K or 6000K - rather white, not too blueish.
It's Xentec - some eBay brand, which looks like this:

Probably 6000k then.
As far as I know from the research I've done about them, there's 4300k, 6000k, 8000k, 10, 12 and in some cases higher. 4300k is stock BMW, Mercedes etc and the higher the number, the more blue/dim they get. Oh and there's the JDM yellow 3000k too.
I had 12000k and holy shit you couldn't see anything at night in the rain. But come photoshoot time, that's a different story haha

actually looks like a decent kit for what it is.  Really projects some useable light.

From the picture its probably one of the lower K numbers.  From that picture, and my computer monitor, it looks like what my Mazda has stock which is 3700k so its probably 4300K.  Everyone wants to go higher number, but you can't see as well when you go higher, especially in the rain.

How is the vertical cutoff?

Post up a pic against a garage door or along side a set of cedar hedges or something.
