hey I am wondering whats the cylindrical shaped filter/sensor behind and underneith the battery and fuel filter ?I think one of the two intake vacume lines run into it .,

In a 2G, it's the charcoal canister if it's the size of a coffee can. 

If it's the size of a D cell battery, then likely it's a purge (to atmosphere via filtered air housing hose) solenoid.

Let me know if I can scan my mechanic's manual and post herewith.

ya the same in the 1G 's, whats it for ? because if that 1/4" vacume line was disconected from that solenoid what would be the outcome ?

it wouldnt get a vac signal to the purge solenoid.....  causing it not suck in the fuel vapours back into your intake manifold.  No biggie really.  Most people disconnect all the canister stuff anyways.
