lak of tools needed any tips
« on: August 07, 2011, 04:00:56 pm »
hey all ok so i just moved and i guess being kind of brainless got rid of my engine lift after selling my last dsm
so since i dont have that heres my question

is there anything i can do without having a lift to get at the motor enough to change the water pump

((ie .... jack up the car brace the engine undo the mounts and drop the car down with leaving the motor suspended above type of thing))

any advice would be awsome
cheers ;D

Just use a hydraulic floor jack and a block of wood then jack it up under the oil pan.

You only need to remove youre timing side mount. You can get away without even bracing it depending on how good your mounts are. Its located under the power steering, so youll have to move the pump out of the way.  youll have to remove the water pump pulley to access the bolts around it. Then it will come right out..
jack it up lightly from the oil pan     I put a piece of wood and a rag folded up ontop of the jack.

You may be able to access it even with the ps pump in position...

I would recommend changing your timing components as well.

I'm almost certain that you have to remove the timing belt to change the water pump.

you WILL  have to remove the timing belt.  I forgot the tensioner pulley is in the way.    So just perform a timing belt procedure and do the water pump while youre in there.  :)

like the previous posters said... just take off the timing belt side engine mount and use a floor jack and a block of wood, (or even the oem spare jack) to jack up the engine to help aid removal of some of the timing cover/water pump bolts.

if its on a 2G have fun trying to get the mid cover off in one piece ahaha.  most of them are already snapped in half when i  have got to em.

if u need a hand setting the timing belt after you remove it, i offer mobile mechanic services.
