Fluxuating idle:s
« on: July 29, 2011, 12:57:30 am »
Hey everyone it's been a while but I'm back lol
So here I go..

Ok so I just picked up a 95 tsi awd and it's got a strange idle
I start it up it's ok for the first few seconds than it strikes the idle
Drops to roughly 1000 rpm than to bout 400 and back and forth it wants to stall but
Keeps going

I looked into it and found a few things it could be
Bad fuel filter
Spark plugs//wires
Maf sensor
Iac motor// senser****((top culprit))
Vacume leak

I hooked up the obd2 and got the fuel trim code
And a mas or volume air flow circut

That's all I got so far anyone got any other ideas

On my '95, I had the same condition, once after doing the timing belt and another when I replaced the stock LICP chamber with a RRE LICP.  The problem went away over a couple of days as the ECU learned how to deal with the changes.

The guy I bought it off of chafed the ecu thinking it was that and the same problem is still happening

Would it be wise to buy a whole tb and swap it over for the sensors an what not

Check your timing. Check to make sure your idle stop switch works on your throttle body and it modulates the throttle properly. Make sure your ISC works properly. Ide recommend unbolting the ISC and checking if the boot on the plunger is ripped. Ive seen this, and it enables too much air to bypass the ISC. also make sure the O ring is good.

on a 2G they dont have the throttle stop switch external like a 1G.

They use the throttle stop switch built into the TPS sensor (thats why the 2G's use a 4 wire sensor as opposed to a 3 wire 1G.

there is a special procedure for confirming the stop switch is set properly.  It involes a digital multimeter and a set of feeler gauges.
