compact battery options?
« on: July 06, 2011, 08:15:58 am »
Eyeballing my new magnus intake and the throttle body etc, it is looking like I will have to do a battery relocation or else get a compact battery once I put the intake into my 1ga talon.

Anyone have any idea what my options are for a compact battery and the likely cost?

Also, does anyone have a set of cables for deleting cruise control?  Just throwing that out there - it would simplify the engine bay on that side considerably if I could get rid of the cruise control box.

I have a small battery and mount that you might be able to convince me to sell.

I have the oddyssey P680 as well in my white colt and its a great battery.  Smallest sized battery that you want to go with i would guess...

I got it from battery direct for around $90.  Great price as well!

I have had 2 PC 680s and while I loved them at first, I found that they just don't last.  One lasted 6-8 months, and one lasted about 2 years max.  Probably a bit less.

And none of them ever cranked that well.  If the car didn't fire up right away, or you were doing a compression test, or priming an oil pump etc, they just can't cut it.

I replaced it with a Braille.  It is the basic same dimensions as the 680, but it cranks like a full sized battery.  I can also leave it for a long time and it still cranks the car just fine.  not slow, not "yay it started" but like a full sized battery in good shape would.

it was not as cheap as the PC680, but it wasn't horrible either.

The only down side was I had to get it from a place in Winnipeg(thru the mail) so it took a week or two.

hmm, interesting.

Mine is and has been really great so far.  I hope it stays that way, no matter who made it.

I bought my Braille from a hobby shop in New Westminster....I forgot the name..It's been three years now and going strong.
But for some reason I always worry about it ...Its so small and I have a 10inch sub and stereo system.

yea they are not supposed to be as great for super boom stereos.

That said, once the car is running and if your alternator is up to snuff, it should be charging the battery more than its being drained.

If its not, get a higher capacity alternator and make sure all the grounds and wiring is in good shape with good, strong clean connections.

Braille are rebadged East Penn Deka batteries at way more dollars. Deka doesn't offer carbon fiber casings, but do the comparo and see for yourself.

Want the same thing for less than Braille www.momentummotorparts.com

good to know thanx.  I have no problem with the battery itself, none at all, but if I can get them cheaper, that would be really nice.
