I used to drive a cherokee for hydro. Had to get up to all the cell towers and remote stations, i also drove a 01 dakota and a liberty. the 97 cherokee decimated the whole fleet when it came to 4xing. Can't say it was anyway nice to drive on pavement, but once you hit the dirt she was in her element. Used to be able to do the tightest nuts in that truck, just spin up a huge cyclone of dust...fun times

buddy of mine has a 98 with the the 99 intake (helps with milage and torque)  373's and 32's he tends to get about 500K to a tank or so.  so it's doable  and thats on the stock tank.

he's in the process of getting 410's and will see if the mileage drops off or stays about the same.   ( the motor may actuallybe in the power band more and therefore working less to more the vehical)  at least thats was part of the conversation.

swapping on the 99 intake on a pre 96 requires more work/parts (ie ps pump) ...  i prob wont end up doing the swap even if my ps pump dies.  but yes many have seen some results from it, others none.

im on stock gearing, auto, and from what i gather heavy 33x12.5 MTs (29lb 15" wheel, 65-70lb tire). i do almost all city ( < 70km/hr ) driving and have yet to see more 300km/tank (60 or 65L?)  :-[

ive recently installed:
- new performance header, down pipe, dynomax cat back. new o2, and rebuilt/flow tested upgraded 4 pintle injectors.  running what looks to be a stock replacement cat.

regearing was a thought but im undecided yet. i was thinking of swapping out my 15" MT's for 16" All Seasons which could save me about 15-25% weight per wheel, which would help the mpg's a bit.

my jeep is currently my DD but will be a 2nd vehicle within 6 months, so im not crying too often about the gas milage - but it is terrible!

silly idea you say?  I say crazy like a fox!!

Bored and stroked, 9:1 with a 13g.  Stock auto 1g cams, 2.5" exhaust and a good intake.

Torque, torque, torque!!  Who needs redline with an engine like that?  It will make more power than the 6, and at least the same N/A torque as the 4cylinder, and when boost hits(like almost all the time) it will make more torque than the 6 too, and it will get really good mileage.

Its still tough to get used to. I Honest to god thought I had a serious rich condition until I checked the EPA ratings and realized I'm getting better than what I should be...
