will 1G axles work with the 2G tranny?
« on: January 25, 2011, 08:13:05 pm »
Just wondering if anyone can confirm if this will work.

i thought 2G use a different length of inner axle stub shaft then 1G's... not sure on this tho.

i am planning on using 1g awd dsm axles w/ a 2G fwd trans (if it will work.

I know guys on here have used a 2G awd trans  in a 1G.  did you use 1G axles? (remi?)

Pretty sure it was using 1g axles including the 1/2 shaft, but It has been almost 2 years.

Kris would know also, he was running a 2g/evo hybrid

yeah i know the AWD axles are different then FWD ,well the drivers side one anyways, i believe the awd, fwd pass. axles are the same.)

We put a AWD drivers w/ intermediate shaft in my buddies 89 turbo colt with a 1G FWD trans... it worked fine...

cool...   this will be for my 93 colt w/ 2G FWD turbo trans running 1G AWD axles.

the issue I see is the hub side.  The suspension on a 2g is completely different, so unless Mitsubishi made the 2g hub the same as the 1g hub(which they may have) I could see that being an issue.

As well, length.  It has to be VERY close to the same length or you can run into trouble when maxing out the suspension, either fully up or fully down.

i've used 2g awd fronts on a 1g

early 1g FWD axles have a larger inner OD, same size as all the AWD.  90's thru early '92, when the 7 bolt came out.
Late '92 to '94 are smaller, and i'm guessing '95 and up.
