2G Strut Mount Plates
« on: August 26, 2010, 04:08:08 pm »
Planning on suspension upgrades and doing some research for now.  Would it be advisable to replace the stock plates or reuse them?  Just that, I believe it would be best to reduce as much play as possible on whatever struts and springs I will be putting in.

I wasn't able to find much about aftermarket plates.  Some seem pretty expensive.

Anyone with experience or recommendations in this area?

Thanks.

just get the jobber aftermarket ones from Lordco, Napa etc.

Probably a Munroe part.

If yours are not worn, or crappy its not totally needed, but if you are in there anyways you may as well do it.

Thanks John.

Are they better than stock or are there actually slightly better ones than the ones you mentioned!?

Cause I wouldn't mind slightly better ones, to reduce the amount of play on the suspensions for better handling  :D

But if the Napa/Lordco ones will do the job just fine then why waste more money ~

not sure if there are any that are better really, but if you can find ones with adjustable camber that would be nice.  Probably cost you a lot more tho

The 420a eclipse I had actually had $500 Tien adjustable shocks on it. Very nice ride, well worth it I think. Only problem was, was that with every adjustment you need a realignment, so yes they are adjustable, but not freely

Actually 200 isn't to bad for a set of adjustable pillow-ball mounts!
On some other cars they're upwards of 400$ per set of two

They're not needed but pillowball mounts will allow your car to gain some very good suspension adjustments, and on the front of a DSM thats a great thing.
If you're just refreshing things, stock is not bad. If you're looking to tune the handling one day, thats another story.

They're like expensive pokemon... gotta catch 'em all.

He's referring to just the upper mount, not the shock itself.

no, only coil overs do.

Yeah.  I just found that out with more research.  Most expensive coil overs do come with pillow balls.

The actual use of my car won't even give expensive coilovers or camber adjustments its moneys worth.  I have seen em on a few cars besides looking cool, the practical daily driving functionality really isn't needed.  Might as well get an alignment every year or six months.

I just wanted to see if there maybe anything better than OEM ones.

Another reason I was asking about strut mount plate replacements was because of strut mount bushings.  The stock ones are probably worn by now so might as well also replace them.  I am not sure if they sell plates and bushings separately or if I can buy them as a kit.

Will have to inquire.

Thanks guys.

If you're looking into this, I believe Ground Control makes an application for the 2G.
