Something a little different for me.
« on: May 30, 2010, 09:47:13 pm »
Well i bought another "project"  some of you might know of this car... and my interest in them from knowing me lol.

this one is a little more "off" then the other cars i have on the go.  Still not sure if i am going to just use this car for parts on my wifes turbo geo storm... or try and fix the body work and engine/turbo/interior and get her back on the road.

It is a 1991 Isuzu Impulse RS.  It came from the factory with a DOHC 16V 1.6L Turbo Intercooled and All wheel drive.  They are VERY rare cars and only 800 of them were ever made in the whole WORLD.  Unfortunalty this one has seen better days and is going to take a miricle to get her back up to par.

Got it for $200.. blown engine, blown turbo.. interior is moldy and dirty and had been sitting for 4 years with its window broken, lots of rust all over it... im hoping the tranny and drivetrain is in decent shape!! Car has 200 000 km's on it. *fingers crossed*

Rare indeed. I have never seen one in person.

I would love to see that drivetrain in the geo!

I love those little cars.  Lots of trouble, even when in good shape, but cool for sure.  JUST about bought a blue one in real nice shape once.

I wouldn't bother with the body.

Take the goodies out for the Storm, crush the body if its as bad as it looks. Probably has structural rust in it too and it would need a complete interior?

And, yes do the awd swap.

AWD is AwD after all  :D

So I have to ask, was it an impulse purchase?

I used to have an Isuzu Impulse.

Good cars. It wasn't a turbo model though.

The turbo "RS" models are definately rare. 16 valve, 1.6L, turbo.

Where'd you find it Brett?

A buddy of mine once had two of these things, non turbo though. They are definitely hard to find, especially without rust. I used to have a 1988 Isuzu I-mark 1.5 Turbo. It was beyond a rust bucket though too and that was ten years ago. You should toss the drive train into the Geo. You could even take all the plastic off the impulse and throw it on the Geo too!! Has it been redone? It looks like its in amazing shape.

its not his, its his inlaws.  Its got lots of room and the roads in one side are super long and straight and flat with barely any cross streets, and the roads out the other side are twisty, winding, hella elevation changes and really cool  :)
