If this was caused from your accident it will be worthwhile claiming it and getting quotes from the dealership, this way they will write off your car and you can get them up to a decent price and then buy a GST or GSX.

if you keep it, just get one from a reputable auto recycler.  Not a u pull it place, but one that has a warranty and checks the engines out.

The 420a engine is very common as its also a Neon engine.

a professionally rebuilt engine will be between $1500-$2500 just for the long block.  You will have to pay someone to do everything on top of that unless you do it.

A good used engine will probably be $750-$1000.  The one for my Colt was $800

You can gamble and get one from Pick-a-Part, but you never know.  Lots of cars go to the wreckers because the engine is dead.

You can pull the engine and rebuild it yourself, or have it rebuilt locally.  Lots of options for you.

don't waste your money on a rebuild any used 420a you get should be in good shape and prolly not driven to hard. If it was me I'd go used for sure.

Frank is the man for getting things done for a good price.  Plus he specializes in DSM's.  He could probably give you a competitive quote on replacing that engine, and might even have a good spare 420a sitting around.

Give him a call
