im doing my head

ok so im taking my head off finally cause i bent valves so i was wondering if i can just undo the cams and slip the belt off  to make it easier ?

You can. Put some zip ties around the timing belt and cam gears, then remove the cam gears. they are hard to do so be careful not to break the bolt in the cam or crack the head with tools. use a bungee cord to hold the cam gears upward so as not to lose the timing on the crank sprocket. getting them back on is difficult too as the tension on the belt will be hard to overcome when you try to line up the gear to the dowel on the cam.

im taking the head off so why does it matter about timing marks  . cant i just turn the short block to tdc once the heads off

Yes you can but don`t bother taking the sprockets off...well you are going to be replacing the cam seals right? So pull them off with the head still on the car for more leverage.

If so just cut the old one off.

ya the timing belt is striped just wondering . i think im going to start ordering everything ect gates t-belt and b-belt, cam gears , new tensioner and tensioner pulleys  and im thinking maybe a cometic gasket  but hear that you have to resurface both head and block  to make it worth while and im also gotta get arp studs

Go with an oem composite gasket unless your gonna have the head planed and the block decked.    And make sure you do the waterpump at the same time.

I have a used built 1g head from my old motor comes with manley valves, retainers etc. no cams.  not ported.  900$  ;)
2.3l fully built stroker. gt35r powered
