In both my failures (any many I read online), it's the tensioner that ends up leaking oil out onto the belt.  The combination of improper tension and oil damage to the belt seems to be one of the common causes.  Does it seem oily at all in there ?

Ds-map / Jackal, highly recommended.  I've been running it for the last 3 - 4 years.  Amazing improvement in throttle response and overall power under part throttle conditions, and that was with the old maf still in place for 2 years.  Amazing tuning platform in my opinion, and best of all free.

yeah if there is oil all over everything then the belts not the problem... the oil leak was. it was probably a cam seal that was leaking... very common on these cars.  Too bad you didn;t catch it in time.

Your almost for sure going to need at least a new/used cylinder head.  Alot easier then pulling the whole engine and tranny out.

What is the reason for a new/used cylinder head?

That sucks dude. I just assumed it was the belt because it wasn't done too long ago. I have seen shitty belts go within 40,000kms.

Since the belt basically stopped turning the cams and crank still spun the valves are bent. Its the 420A motor so I'm not sure how easy it will be to find a good used head. As for selling that motor small market for them. It you are trying to put a 4G63 into a 420A fitted car, its going to be a lot of work. It can be done but you should realize the cost/benefit of taking on such a project

matts already 12 beer deep... the original motor from my old car had the timing belt shred apart "doin 120 down the highway" i was told... And it was nasty. Head was screwed, not even rebuildable. Piston #1 had a valve go thru the piston and mashed the rest of the piston up destorying the bottom end. block MIGHT have been salvagable if it was bored a couple times. I junked it and got a used motor.

Zach holts motor is good. I was the one who had that motor built to go into my car before selling the whole project too him.

Why buy an entire motor? Why not buy a new head and belt kit fix your seal leak and save some money? Phil's head in parts store would work perfect for you and you could then sell your head as a damaged core to make up some of the cash?????

sometimes when the status is unknown, the bill to get something diagnosed can add up easily.
