No, no bikinis were involved and it's not even a dsm, but I like them and the photo forum is slow these days.

Yeah, they came out really nice for an at-home respray.

It was quite the ordeal to get them like that.  Its roughly 2hrs/wheel just in sanding and then about 2 hrs total for painting.

I'm not complaining, I kind of like doing that sort of thing.

plus the $15/wheel for the new centre caps.

/Facepalm

Its the first time ive EVER been to a wand wash.

Remi and I were going to take some pics of my car and I couldn't very well let it be captured dirty :)

He (Remi) loved that the car was pink with the soap!!!

He is going to get an E36, you just wait :)

Yes, very manly car with all the pretty soap all over it.

I wouldn't do that to MY e36... wand wash...

Hi again Zach, nice car  :)

I like those too.

Wand washing is not a big deal, even on black cars, as long as the brush, water, soap etc is clean and you rinse the car well before you wash it with the brush.  Oh and the brush is good enough quality.

Back when I was detailing full time, we wand/brush washed $150,000 cars sometimes.  Lots of $80,000 cars.

And Zach, I know about the time involved in the wheels, I did mine on the red Talon, its a lot of work, but done right its worth it.  Mine still look good, and the paint is not flaking or anything like that.  I do have a few rock chips on them, but I did them 6-7 years ago  :)

Nice car, Zach.
I've got the BMW bug right now... Although I like a clean e30 just a tiny bit more than the e36.
(Or, for the best of both worlds, an s50 powered e30).

If only I could afford it.

Blasphemy!

I've never seen a brush I'd consider using on [nice] paint. Especially darker colours.

Ideally, pressure wash then foam it and let it set, pressure wash again then do a hand wash with a good mitt using a two bucket method and using a second mitt for the lowest few inches of the body/underbody/fenders where the dirt really accumulates.

Realistically, rinse it thoroughly, make sure the water and mitt are clean, and use a separate one for the lowest bits.

Thanks for the kind words :) She is certainly a fun car to drive.

@ CamWeiss:
I have to agree with you on that one.  My last car was an e30 318is (1991) which I absolutely loved.  The styling of the e30's have yet to be matched in my books.  Especially the e30 M3.  The subtle fender flares and the over-lip trunk lid.  Square front, straight up and down windshield, love everything about it.

And yes, the 2 bucket method is the agreed upon overall best method for washing.

@ John Hartman:
I suppose if the wash bay company takes care of their equipment there should be no reason it would be bad, but its just so damn impersonal :)  I really do enjoy washing by hand and given the time, it would have been done that way.  Washing by hand gives you time to look at things, inspect little details and nuances of the car you never noticed before.  Its almost a Zen moment for me.  Clears the head of the days worries.

Wow, I kind of sound like a bit of a nut-job, oh well.

nope, thats for sure, get closer and more intimate with it.  Just if you can't, and your equipment is all clean, its ok once in a while to do a wand wash.  Drivethru car washes are out tho...

And yea, E30s are very cool.
