I have to agree with you on that one. My last car was an e30 318is (1991) which I absolutely loved. The styling of the e30's have yet to be matched in my books. Especially the e30 M3. The subtle fender flares and the over-lip trunk lid. Square front, straight up and down windshield, love everything about it.
And yes, the 2 bucket method is the agreed upon overall best method for washing.

I suppose if the wash bay company takes care of their equipment there should be no reason it would be bad, but its just so damn impersonal
I really do enjoy washing by hand and given the time, it would have been done that way. Washing by hand gives you time to look at things, inspect little details and nuances of the car you never noticed before. Its almost a Zen moment for me. Clears the head of the days worries.
Wow, I kind of sound like a bit of a nut-job, oh well.
