HACK JOB!! If you love DSM's but have a weak heart...
« on: January 13, 2010, 10:20:07 pm »
DO NOT LOOK!!

This is the result of a ZERO dollar RallyX budget (Needed to get I/C up out of way of dirt/boulders)

I expect the DSM gods will smite me!

That poor hood!! But functionality is better than looks.

But looking at your side pic(forget the actual word right now) is the IC and air filter being up there going to be that much better?

It would cool better where it was!

Maybe you need a water:air IC :)

I know I will get heat-soak that plagues top-mount I/C, but stock location is too vulnerable for the roads I drive, and for RallyX competition.

In my case, the stock location IS NOT cooler once the I/C gets all plugged up with mud.

Atleast hes out there racing. I would rather have a ugly car in a race, than a pretty one thats not.

Just curious what events you are planning on attending? I volunteer at as many of the regional and national rallies as i can. Besides seeing craig ross at the odd rally they are somewhat dsm'less. Would be nice to another one out there. If that top mount is functional than it is in a way better spot. A majority of crashes tend to see front end damage.

Damn, Ken.

That's UGLY!

Get a Supra Sidemount on there... Or up there as this case may be.

Graeme, Ken participates in the Island Rallysport Club rallycrosses, and drives from Port Alberni to Bamfield on some rough (and active) logging roads on a weekly basis.

ken you should look at entering one of the cars regional events. Its a pretty decent group of people, competative, and a great stepping stone for newer racers.

Graeme, thanks for the invite, but I have enough on my plate between house reno's, Porche projects, & the RallyX right now.

I had to UNDO the hacking temporarily, as I was having some plumbing issues, and the major downpour last night dumped a bunch of water into my intake. Lucky that I took it all apart before trying to start this morning; Definitely enough water to cause a hydro-lock.

I want to get the intercooler to lay flat, just peeking out of the hood, and will use a fan to ensure airflow. I will be putting a heat shield btw the engine & intercooler. Idealy, I also want to "snorkel" the air filter/intake. As you can see from my avatar, I do a fair bit of wading. Sometimes on the Bamfield road, I have had to ford streams a couple of feet deep.

"in the ghetto....oo-oo-oo" ;D

I would love to see some pictures of the stream crossings in progress.  do you cross carefully or at speed?
