New DD
« on: January 12, 2010, 10:03:46 am »
Just thought I'd share. I am bringing this thing in from alberta in a month or two. Probably gunna get flamed here for it. But here goes.
Its a 1993 metro with a full 1991 turbo swap, bigger brakes, 2" exhaust, most importantly no rust. Still just a little 3 banger with a wee turbo on it. Should be a fun little application to play with.

Nice.  Love those tiny little things.  Its good on fuel and fun to drive with the tiny turbo.

But wait a minute..... ::)  Isn't a Firefly Turbo a top mount intercooler with a wicked little hood scoop!?

With the snow on the hood, I don't see one.

Or maybe it doesn't need one...hmmm..

Yeap, she's got the vented hood, its painted black, and of course the top mount to go with it. Its a fresh, strong running rebuild with a decent tranny in it. Everything works. It has no rust on the rockers, or anywhere else minus a 1" spot on one of the fenders (very rare). I am getting it from a geo mechanic who does alberta inspections. He is going to make sure it is up to par for a bc inspection. Great guy, owns a shop outside of edmonton. Giving me some extra parts, tires, and labour. All for 1500 bucks. I have a new aeromotive fpr, boost controller, 1g bov, afc, boost gauge and of course my momo shift knob, all waiting to go in. Havn't really completed my research on how it will all work out, and the main thing is to keep the car running so i can go to work and stuff. So i may end up keeping it moderately stock. Knowing me i will have it in a million pieces on my garage floor in no time...where it will sit for all time...

you can actually get some decent numbers out of these engines with some fuel upgrades, a bigger turbo and a decent intercooler (with exhuast/intake of course).

They are a very stout piece of steel and aluminum for sure!

those are neat little cars.  Well the body and interior are basic at best, but the mechanicals are simple, reliable as hell, cheap and easy to work on.

Plus, I would suggest Jasons estimate is about 50% of what can be made fairly easily out of one.  And the car weighs less than a Colt.
91 Eagle Talon TSi 5spd awd.  GT-12, TriFlow Cams, 850s, Tial, JIC, Jackal, sticky rubber.
86 Merkur XR4Ti 5spd, rwd, turbo, 91,381km.  Original paint, heated leather. intercooled, big VAM, Full 3" exhaust, Cossie sway bar, 16" tires.
06 Mazdaspeed6 6spd awd, DISI turbo, heated leather HIDs, Corksport, Cobb, Konig, Centric...
2018 VW Golf Alltrack turbo Tornado Red, 6mt, some free mods

I have a friend named Ian, who LOVED his turbo sprint / metro.
He used to track it all the time. Ran the turbo to 21PSI, more fuel, bov etc etc.
Just thought it was a hot rod.

Best he did at the track ever was a 16.7.
