Sunday July 26 Fraser Valley Tour!! (The Big One!)
« on: July 13, 2009, 08:03:50 pm »
What: The Annual BCDSM Fraser Valley Tour

When: Sunday, July 26th, 2009

Where: Starting in Burnaby, we'll be cruising the Lougheed Hwy, through the backroads of Mission. From Mission, we will continue on to Harrison Hot Springs for lunch. From there, on to the Hope slide.

EDIT 07-13-09
I have created a new and better route map for FVT 2009. It now includes times, and a little more info. It can be found here:
http://maps.google.ca/maps/ms?hl=en&ie=UTF8&msa=0&msid=105045548495730339620.00046dfeae82a184977ff&t=h&z=9

Here's a write-up covering the highlights:
FVT 2009 Notes:

-BCIT is the starting point and all members are encouraged to start there if they can.
There will be 2 other places to hook up with the tour later (Mission Chevron and Harrison for lunch)

BCIT:
ARRIVE:8:00 +/-
LEAVE:8:45

TRAVEL TO MISSION CHEVRON FROM HERE:
72 KMS
ALLOWED 1.5 HOURS
ALLOWED ONE 5 MINUTE STOP FOR REGROUPING TOWARDS THE END OF DEWDNEY TRUNK (PAST MOST OF THE STOPLIGHTS)

MISSION CHEVRON:
ARRIVE:10:15 +/-
LEAVE :10:45
This is a good pit stop place. Repairs (I've done that!), fuel, coffee, bathroom.
This is also a good alternate meeting location if you can't start at BCIT.

TRAVEL TO HARRISON HOT SPRINGS LUNCH AREA FROM HERE:
60 KMS
ALLOWED 1.25 HOURS
ALLOWED ONE 5 MINUTE STOP FOR REGROUPING JUST OUTSIDE MISSION.

HARRISON LAKE LUNCH STOP:
ARRIVE: 12:00 +/-
LEAVE: 1:15 +/-
This is our BBQ lunch break, courtesy of Tony Leung and others who have donated their time and money.
Lunch is by donation with a small minimum.

This will be your last chance to buy 50/50 tickets, and raffle tickets. These are for a BCDSM
expenses (like the forum we all use everyday). There are some great prizes, so get on board!

TRAVEL TO HOPE SLIDE FINALE:
60 KMS
ALLOWED 1 HOUR

***THREE PLACES TO PAY ATTENTION***:
1. On the Louheed Hwy between BCIT and Mission, there is 2 turns (or more) for Dewdney Trunk Rd.
One right after the Pitt River bridge, and, the next one.
DO NOT take the one right after the Pitt River Bridge. Its the next one you want! Its clear
if you have the map (you have printed it out right?)

2. Watch for the interchange from Lougheed Hwy to Hwy 1 after leaving Harrison. We have gone the
wrong way more then once!!

3. Watch for the interchange after travelling through Hope, and getting back on Hwy 1.
The HWY 3 exit sneaks up, and we have missed it and headed to the Coquihala more then once!

This is the one we all try to get our cars ready for. Island and Interior people, we would love to see 'ya!

Unfortunately I will be unable to attend the big meet. :( The business takeover isn't on the course it was planned to be. Was looking forward to meeting tons of you. Sorry.

Nice.  Who here has radio sets??  I am trying to borrow a set.

It would be nice to have radios for communication while traveling.  As sometimes there could be someone in the middle that takes the wrong route and misleads others from behind.  It would be good to be able to communicate with the main person driving to request for them to wait for other members that are lagging behind due to traffic etc.

Any thoughts or suggestions??

The group stays togethe pretty well if you put someone who knows the route at the back, but radios for the lead and trail cars would be great.

I would like to organize at each leave point:
1. Lead car-make sure they have a map and are comfortable leading
2. Mid pack car
3. End car

Each of the above needs to have a radio and keep an eye on things. As seen on the route map, Ive tried to build in 5 min stops after the congested areas to allow everyone to form up again.
