My newest money pit (UPDATED March 16, 2010)
« on: July 21, 2008, 07:34:31 pm »
Its a 91 TSI AWD, that i picked up missing the trans, transfer case, ECU, and a few other smaller things for $650, had the motor with it still and a full turbo back 3" exhaust, KYB AGX all around with Tein Springs, i couldn't say no.  About a week later, after trying to source out some parts, i talked to Shawn Silva at Brentwood Auto Salvage, i purchased a whole flipped 93AWD from him and took the whole drivetrain including the 4 bolt rear end which i will be swapping in, ECU, and everything else i needed, there was pretty much nothing left of the wrecked car when i was done with it, i also grabbed a full 1Gb rear end swap that will be going on this car too, twin piston front brakes.
Now for the pictures

When i am done i will have replaced pretty much every gasket and seal on the motor, minus the headgasket.  Balance shafts are in process of being removed, brand new oil pump, new timing belt, tensioner, and idlers, waterpump.  I am going to put the motor back in and have the car run in stock form, because i haven't seen the car run myself yet.  After it runs for a few weeks smoothly in stock form i'll start throwing my pile of mods at it,
FMIC with 2.5" piping
550cc injectors
255 Walbro
SAFC
GM MAF-T
Forge BOV
4 bolt rear end
2 piston front brakes
and see what it feels like around 15-17lbs tuned nicely

ALL this and i still own my 93TSI FWD which is starting to feel left out i think

So now for the update:
I've added and changed a few things, here is the mod list now:

FMIC with 2.5" piping
750cc injectors
255 Walbro
Aeromotive AFPR
SBR GT30-10 Turbo
Turbo back 3" exhaust
Jeff O custom EPROM chip
SAFC
MAF-T......soon to be changed to 2G MAF
Forge BOV
4 bolt rear LSD
2 piston front brakes
Megan Racing Coilovers
RM rear sway bar
225/45/17 Falken Azenis
17x8.0 MSR rims

I've got it running at 16psi with no knock, it pulls very hard, i do think i have a some MAF over run i'm dealing with.  I've had nothing but issues with the MAF-T, causing a huge lag in building boost...switch back to the 1G MAF and its fine, except for the over run.  So i'll be ditching both and going to a 2G MAF.  I've been Autocrossing it and it handles amazing, the coilovers have a way better ride than my AGX's and Tein springs.  Plus adjustable camber plates, pillow ball mounts, and adjustable ride height, and 32 different dampening settings, from soft to hard.

Stock 14B

Turbo Comparison

Manifold off

New Turbo

FMIC installed, i built the piping, and do not suggest it to anyone.  Buy a full kit, it will be cheaper in the long run!

Bumper Cover back on

Re-done engine bay....ya its kinda of dark

March, 16, 2010
So i figure its time for a bit of an update, its been a while.  Haven't done too much in the way of mods, replaced my 1G MAF with a 2G MAF, got my eprom chip re-burnt to run the 2G MAF.  Installed my SAFC, and some Megan Racing Coilovers, huge difference in handling on the track.

This is the latest picture i have from the last event out at Western Speedway here in Victoria

So a year after buying the car, basically rebuilding the motor, repairing a ton of wiring in the engine bay and the interior and installing the whole drivetrain, IT RUNS!! and it is insured.  I am running it in stock form for a few months just so it can prove itself to me and then i'll start to mod it.  The mod list is above.
I have some Gunmetal 1GB rims that i am picking up tomorrow and going to see how they look on it, i'll take some pictures and ask for your opinions.

Hey Dan Sweet Deal. I had some 1GB wheels but got rid on them when I sold the 95NT. I bought them off Mike Cummings and they were 2 were bent. Are you getting them off some random person or a buddy of yours?

1ga wheels look better, especially on a 1ga car.

Good job btw  :)

I preferred the 1gb myself after having both on my car but you can't beat 18 inchers with chrome lips though.lol

The 1GB wheels actually came off my 1GB TSI FWD which has aftermarket wheels on it now, so i figured i'd try them out on my 1GA AWD and see how they look.  I am in the market for some 17" wheels in black with a chrome/polished lip for sure.
