My new ride
« on: July 06, 2008, 09:06:10 pm »
It's been so long that I drove my car that I keep forgetting I even have it.  Here's a couple pics of my new mode of transportation.

Not sure if the pics worked because i'm terrible with posting pictures.

Its a 1988 Yamaha FZR250, imported from Japan.  Its a 4 cylinder that pushes around 46hp, redline starts at 16.5k rpm with peak hp at 14.5k rpm.  Its liquid cooled with F/R discs and exhaust EXUP valve.  Its a pretty fun little bike, I bought it to get into bikes and also for cheaper insurance and gas.  I liked the uniqueness and cleanlyness of this particular bike.

Now if only someone could motivate me to get my Talon going I could post some new pictures of her, a few new additions since you've all last seen her probably 2 years ago haha.

No I didn't import it, I bought it privately.  Theres a place in Vancouver called Windbell that imports grey bikes.  However, i've heard mixed things about the quality of the bikes they bring in and they are also a bit expensive.

I got a pretty good deal on it at 2700 bucks, with 30k km on it, but the bike is in excellent condition.  Windbell usually sells similar bikes like vfrs, fzrs etc for around 3600 for the 250cc bikes.  That is for bikes that are average condition rather than excellent condition.

Ya I've heard a lot of different things about wind bell as well. I am going to do some more research, i've been finding an abundance of great information on Bcsportbikes.com.

By the way, your bike looks great !! So clean and shiny  8).

I've always liked the older 250/400 bikes, very cool.

There used to be a shop in Van called Atlas Cycle.  I was in there and there were some SUPER ULTRA low milers.  There were several with under 100k(like 86 and 30 kilometers) the one that I wanted was a Kawi Ninja400R with 17.6 kilometers on it.

Cheap insurance and gas  :)  But its not safe on the roads these days for a bike anymore...

My mother (yes, my 45 year old mother rides and I don't, it's sad) bought a VFR750 from them with only 750km on it. Had been stored since new, and was a 96 (bought in 2004 I think).
They're like expensive pokemon... gotta catch 'em all.

Yea I don't know how comfortable I would be riding around Vancouver in heavy traffic.  I live in Vic though, its still pretty bad here at times, but overall I haven't had many complaints with the drivers so far.  Alot of my riding is just pleasure riding though which is in areas far away from heavy traffic.

I've heard mixed things about Atlas, but I thought they don't exist anymore???  I thought the old Atlas was the new Windbell?  I don't know.  But good on her with the bike.

The old 400's are wicked bikes, because you get alot more power than the 250 but still in the lowest insurance bracket, 400cc and under, so most bang for your buck.  The Honda VFR400 is wicked (the late 80's early 90's).

The 08 ninja250 is cool in that it looks like a 600 sports bike and not a 250 but they aren't really that powerful.  It's got around 32hp, mine has around 45hp and i'm even starting to get bored of it after 3k km of riding.  I'll most likely be upgrading to a 600 next riding season.

Those VFR400s are badass.  I wanted to get one, but they are pretty overpriced imo.  When I bought mine someone had a 1990 for sale and was asking like 4700 and it wasn't even in that great of shape.  For 5k you can get a late 90's or 2000 yamaha R6 or cbr600.
But then again the VFR is rare and more unique.

An 07 gixxer would be a sweet bike.  600s are nice city bikes because the gearing is setup fairly nicely, as long as you dont want ride at 50 (at least thats what my buddies R6 is like).
If you take professional training courses and wear proper gear bikes can be safe.
