Is this possible?
Is it worth doing on my 2gspyder?

Thanx Andreas

The back half of the floorpan on the FWD and AWD is completely different, so I would say not a good idea.

Road Race Engineering have done this before..and the total cost was estimated to be around $7000 USD.

DO IT. 8)

You would be my hero.  I believe RRE charges approx. $2000 in labour, and you can get the necessary parts for maybe $2000 or so.  Keep in mind these prices are american.

Search Tooners and Talk for AWD Spyder.

John Hun (sp?) was the first to do it.  He's got a store now called prostreet industries, I believe.

Trust me it is very tempting. I am going to look at it further. My buddy and i can do alot of the work ourselves so it wont be as expensive.

I don't think so, there are many people saying that they got their spyder done.

I think the confusion is coming from the difference between 1G and 2G.  The 1G has a totally different floorpan between FWD and AWD and a swap is pretty much impossible because in addition to all the drivetrain parts you'd need to cut out the old floorpan and weld in the new one.

Now, with the 2G my understanding is that the basic floorpan is the same.  So you drill some holes, weld a driveshaft bracket or two in place, maybe change the crossmember up front, and install the dif and suspension.  It can be done relatively easy.

IIRC RRE did a 1G swap for like $7000 and said never again but have done a half dozen or so 2G swaps on spyders mostly.

With all that said a Turbo AWD Spyder would be supa-pimpin'  :pimp:

your car is already really amazing anyways Andreas, adding AWD would upgrade it from kicking ass to destroying ass    .  After seeing it at Lougheed last time I thought to myself "awesome car..too bad its WWD".  But then again, I'm sure the opinion of someone you met only once means a lot

In conclusion, DO IT!!!

I say keep it as is.  You can buy 2 awd 2g's for the cost of your spyder + awd conversion, or 3-4 1g awd's.

You've got what many of us want already...

do you realize how much your spyder is going to weigh after an awd conversion?

i say buy a 1g awd like someone said and save the spyder for sunny days, it'll cost less.

Well thats the only drawback, but horsepower will make up for the extra weight.
