hole in console
« on: May 01, 2003, 03:47:58 pm »
in my 1990 talon there is a little hole in front of my shifter on the left side of the console thing. i was reading in my shop manual and it says theres supposed to  be a switch for " power/fuel efficiency" something like that.
i also found a knob of some sort under the console with 3 wires coming out of it, 2 were hooked up to something and one was hooked up to nothing.

any help with this? what do other first gen TSi's have there?

I think you are talking about the tiny coin holder that is in the 5sp, the Auto has the selector switch. As for the knob, it sounds like a two pole switch to me, is it aftermarket looking or stock like? probably a valet switch?

hopefully that works....
anyhow i looked at it again, and it seems to be a knob to control something aftermarket...it was a clear peice of plastic painted white and trimmed to fit perfectly into where that coin holder is. i'm thinking it was to control an amp, cuz it came prewired for an amp, the guy must have ran a sub... i'll look into where the wires lead to....

I put a toggle switch in where my coin slot used to be. I tell people it's the ejector seat switch. Maybe one day I will hook up the switch to something. The door handle is a much better coin holder anyway.

Eric, that looks to me like a potentiometer to control amount of sub gain in an High quality amplifier. Do you know where it goes? Does it go to your rear compartment? Do you or did you have a Sub installed in your rear compartment?

yea i'm pretty sure it goes to the back area, there are 2 wires under my back seat that probably go to the knob in the console. the car was prewired for an amp when i got it, but with shitty rcas, 8G wire and a horrid ground, so i doubt it was a quality amp. i have a pheonix gold amp back there now and it has a cub control input, but it's a phone cord jack so i dont know how i'd wire this thing to my amp.

Those aren't useless at all!

In the coin holder I've got a little piece of aluminum trimmed to fit with a red covered aviation style switch to control my driving lights, then I use the door to the right for coins... But if I have often thought about making it some secret switches... and hiding something in the ashtray too, either a guage or more switches.
