park brake light
« on: February 22, 2005, 10:49:57 am »
My park brake light is stuck on. If you push down on the switch the light will dim slightly, but remain on. My guess would be my alternator is on its way out. Although, my volt meter shows a reasonable charge level, any thoughts?

I think, if my memory serves me correctly, you need to inspect your brake pads and/or your brake fluid.

I am not sure why the light dims, but the light will come on if your brake fluid is low.  Take a look and top it up as needed.

If thet does not fix it, does anyone know where the sensor is for the ebrake? (So the light knows when the ebrake is up)

I checked my fluid and it was down a tiny bit. So, I topped off the fluid and started my car in anticipation of success. Unfortunately, the light is still on. What to do now? The car has fluid, new pads and a good stiff pedal.

check wiring to/from that switch under the ebrake handle.  Manual will help emmensly here for the wiring locations and colour codes.

As will a test light.  It could be as simple as a bad ground that is easy to get at.
