HUGE Battery Drain
« on: October 15, 2004, 04:56:23 pm »
Man...i have a massive battery drain. I think its the alternator. If unplug the alternator and all fuses drain goes away, plug in alternator and its back. I plugged all fuses back except for 3 .The main fuse, bat fuse and this other one i don't know what its for...lost fuse panel cover... the drain goes away from 12v to 2v. Basically if i put back one of the two missing fuses in the pic the drain is back. This is while the alt. is unplugged. Anyways here is a pic (taken with cell phone) any help would be appreciated.

can you isolate ONE circuit?

Do you have a test light?  You could shut off the car and take out the key, and let the ECU click off.

then go under the hood and ground the clip terminal on your test light, then probe power wires with the other end of the light.  When you find one that lights it up brightly, you have the circuit.

Electrical can take a long time and be very frustrating, so don't give up.

The reason i ask what this is, is that when i unplug the connector from it the battery drain goes down from 11.77v to like .8v. So not sure if that is the problem. Also i got a new alternator cause the other one was fried. So know i can put 100a fuse back in with no drain but as soon as i put the other alt. fuse in the drain comes back also. Could it be i have two drains ?

What are the odds....or is there a main problem i'm missing and these two fuses ( BAT. & ALT. Sens.) are the ones missleading me ?

I've looked online everywhere and can't find anything on these things. Would this be called the MPI Control Unit ?

I know what it stands for ... I was just wondering if anyone knew if the module i removed from near the fuse panel was called the " MPI control unit".

Also if anyone has a parts car or has one of these units i could borrow   so that i can plug it in and see if the drain continues that would be awesome.

Thanks.
