Tim, here's a suggestion.  TURN IT OFF WHEN YOU WANT MORE POWER.  That's what I'd do.  I mean, seriously--I don't have A/C.  I wish I did.  It's more effort to pull it out than turn it off.

When the a/c is turned OFF,  there is minimal power draw.  There is the issue of weight,  but I'm not sure if its worth the effort (to remove it) unless you are getting very serious about racing (drag or solo II).

If you are, then I'm sure you've already removed the sound deading materials, seats, spares, jacks, rebar, and the rest of the interior.

For many dsmr's, its a great source of pride pushing a heavily laden (full stock interior, stock a/c, etc.) DSM into the low 12s.  8)

AC is primarily taken out for weight savings, not for power gain.

It gives you much weight savings, but little power gain.

yea i know i know, i'm just thinking of projects to keep myself busy. and graham, what am i supposed to do in the rain when my windows are foggy as hell. turn off the defrosters and not see, then book it? no can do. cuz on 2g's, or newer cars, when u turn on the defroster, the a/c automatically turns on. thats all

Tim man, no offence or nothin' but
A)what're you doing speeding/racing in the rain (AWD or no) and
B)that's the point of owning a DSM.  Getting it to the point of having so much power you don't NEED to turn off the A/C

Tim, simply remove the a/c belt in the winter.  Put it back on when it gets warm.   This also makes the a/c belt last twice as long.

Haha, so true, I love walking away from someone then realizing, holy crap, the A/C was on!  That and the compressor should cut out when you go WOT anyways.  At least with a TMO style chip in a 1G it will, On a newer car I can't imagine they run the compressor on all the way to redline at WOT.
DSMs - fun when they run
