All the boost controller does is regulate the amount of air pressure getting to the wastegate actuator, thus holding it closed for longer. You could go and buy a $100 electronic one if you want but a lot of us just make manual boost controllers for about $10 from pipe fittings. See the www.VFAQ.com  about how to do that.

The HK$ and Greedy ones are fancy ones that basically allow you to adjust boost from inside your car, and will usually have other features, like dual-setting controls (ie:if you have an FWD, you can run 10 PSI for first gear, and then when you're in 2nd and up, you'll run 17), boost gauge, turbo timer etc etc.  Vlad Busta makes a mean MBC, and a lot of people (not including me, due to fixing my *&^$#@ car) are running the Busta BC.  PM him for info on it :)

the HKS IV has a fuzzy logic learning mode, which is very cool, but the unit itself looks pretty dated

you would probably want to lean more towards a greddy e-manage system, apexi AVCR, blitz dsbc  or somthing blingin like that

For a dual stage boost controller, wouldn't it be safe to have something like the Apexi SAFC II.  The second gen has 2 settings to accompany the dual stage controller.

The SAFC II with 2 sets of maps would be ideal, what you'd do otherwise is set the car up to run right on hi boost, and it will run pig rich on low boost but you just deal with it for the greater good, like good traction outta the hole.

they do increase hp, because if your car can handle it, you will be able to up the boost, how much hp? well that is another question on its own and only a dyno could really tell ya that.
