Camber Plates?
« on: January 06, 2004, 10:38:14 pm »
I'm worried about uneven tire wear...

    97' Eclipse GST
I've got a set of ADR GT Sport 18" by 7.5"
I'm gonna lower it about 2" I think. (havent decided on hardware yet, suggestions appreciated)

Will my tires wear unevenly? I've thought about getting adjustable camber plates but do they help?

TIA
97 GS-T

Talk to lowell at L&R, he can alter your control arms so your camber will be back at stock. Pretty cheap as well.

tire wear

the lower the tread wear rating on your tires, the faster they will wear down especially if u have lowered your car. lowering creates neg camber (which wears the inside of your tire tread) and also messes with the caster (more uneven wear)-- cant really desribe without drawing a diagram.  but if u have low profile tires-- u should invest in a front and rear camber kit... the front kit is most important if you have a front wheel driven car... but all 4 is most preferable.  i learned the hard way back in the day and replaced 3 of 4 tires ($200 each) when a camber kit for my 1992 prelude would of cost me like $400 + wheel alignment.  uneven wear can happen with or without lowering-- thats a matter of taking it to get aligned once a year (depends on quality of your roads etc and if u curbed your wheels).  i hope this helps.
